The U.S.-Africa Trade Desk (USATD) is in Washington, DC this week for the World Bank Spring Meetings, joining global leaders from across government, finance, investment, and development for one of the most important moments on the international economic calendar.
For USATD, the week has represented more than participation in a major international gathering. It has provided an important opportunity to strengthen strategic relationships, support high-level trade engagement, and reinforce the value of practical, transaction-focused partnerships between African markets and the United States.

A key highlight of USATD’s program this week was Mauritius & Lesotho Day, a private event held on Thursday in Washington, DC. Hosted by the U.S.-Africa Trade Desk in partnership with the Government of Mauritius and the Kingdom of Lesotho, the event served as a high-level, invitation-only platform for meaningful commercial engagement.

Representing USATD during this important week were Gavin van der Burgh, William Fanjoy, Jeremy Faber, Jeanah Lacey, Shane Townsend, Marlene van der Burgh, and Dion Oglesby, whose participation underscored the organization’s strong commitment to advancing U.S.-Africa trade and investment engagement at the highest levels.

The event was a notable success, bringing together key leaders and speakers including Hon. Minister Mokhethi Shelile and Hon. Minister Mohlomi Moleko from Lesotho, Thabo Khapise from the Lesotho National Development Corporation, Hon. Minister Ameer Meea from Mauritius, and Lilowtee Rajmun-Jooseery and Arif Currimjee from the Mauritius Export Association, alongside major retail buyers, investors, U.S. and African banks, and senior U.S. government officials.

The gathering created a focused environment for substantive discussion, strategic relationship-building, and commercially relevant engagement. USATD extends its sincere appreciation to all those who attended and contributed to the success of the event. The quality of participation and engagement throughout the day reflected the importance of convening the right stakeholders in the right setting to support real opportunities and measurable outcomes.
As the World Bank Spring Meetings continue, USATD remains committed to advancing practical trade and investment linkages between Africa and the United States.
