Momentum Continues to Grow

The U.S. 90-day tariff pause, announced in April, has done more than delay decisions — it has sparked momentum.

African exporters from Mauritius, Madagascar, and Botswana are using this window to realign sourcing strategies, build traceability systems, and deepen U.S. partnerships. What’s emerging is not a reactive response, but a proactive repositioning of trade relationships on both sides of the Atlantic.

At USATD, we’ve spent May supporting tangible outcomes:

  • In Mauritius, our teams are advising textile exporters on U.S. cotton compatibility and logistics.
  • In Botswana, we’re helping to shape value-driven export strategies for ethical beef and sustainable apparel.
  • In Madagascar, we’re assisting vanilla and textile exporters in preparing traceability documentation and identifying key U.S. categories.

With bilateral engagement intensifying across both continents, there’s growing mutual willingness to turn this pause into a long-term shift. We’re seeing a shared commitment to:

  • Transparent policy reform
  • Sector-specific alignment
  • Redefining partnership around co-investment and sustainability
